Another Democratic Win

"Letter to Editor"

12/14/2006

Dear Dear DFL Members and Supporters,

Congratulations to Congressman-elect Ciro D. Rodriguez!

Voters sent a message in November and they sent another one last night, that change is coming to Washington. Yesterday the final election of 2006 was held, a runoff in Texas' 23rd Congressional District, where Democrat Ciro Rodriguez fought an uphill battle against an extremely well-funded Republican rubber stamp named Henry Bonilla. The end result was the 30th seat Democrats picked up this cycle, with Rodriguez winning by a remarkable 10 percent margin.

From every corner of the country and even this newly drawn district in Texas, American families made crystal clear that they trust Democrats to take our country in a new direction. Ciro Rodriguez is committed to restoring common sense to our budget and dignity to the way we treat our veterans. His victory was a victory for Texas families whose values have been missing from Washington for far too long.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) was heavily involved in every aspect of this race, spending more than $1 million. Our national field director helped win this campaign on the ground while our staff never stopped here at headquarters raising money and reaching out to the voters of Texas.

Thank you again for standing with us and with the Democratic Party. I pledge that the change that Democrats bring to this country will make all of America proud and take our nation in the new direction it needs.

Sincerely,

Rahm Emanuel
Chairman, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

P.S. -- I also hope that we have shown you just how important your support has been, and how much we can accomplish with even a small contribution. With this runoff finished, all eyes will turn to the situation in FL-13, Katherine Harris' old district, where we are fighting hard to protect the integrity of our elections, and then on to defending our dozens of new members against relentless Republican attempts to get their seats back while we also work to expand our majority. We still need you with us, if you want to stand with us at this turning point I can't tell you how grateful we and all House Democrats will be.
