The Olmsted County DFL and the Winona County DFL Caucuses have joined hands to work together for a special election coming up in House District 28B, a seat recently vacated by Steve Sviggum who held it for 28 years.
The election is near-in and will be held on August 7th. This gives candidates very little time to qualify for public funding and to campaign.
For that reason there is a sense of urgency to work on behalf of the DFL endorsed candidate Linda Pheilsticker. DFL’ers are asked to contact their Caucus leaders and to offer assistance to help in phone banking, lit drops, and door knocking. Also donations are urgently needed and so are hosting events.
Linda is a perfect fit for her district. She grew up on a dairy farm, teaches social studies at Winona Senior High School and is well-known in the community. Linda supports strong rural economic development, making health care affordable to working and middle-class families, and fully funding public education so that our children can have every possible opportunity to succeed.
The DFL is working hard to pick up this seat considered a prize seat because it would end three decades of political control of that District by the GOP. For the DFL it is seen a chance to moving closer to veto proofing the Republican Governor. Literally, every seat is an important seat in Minnesota.
The District covers all or parts of Winona, Goodhue, and Wabasha Counties and is goeographically disbursed.
