I think that DFLers across the state should write letters to the editor to submit to local papers, responding to Speaker Sviggums extremely negative, divisive political rhetoric. Apparently, he is setting the stage for the 2006 campaign - negative, divisive, extreme - and of course, pointing the finger for a special session and partial government shut down on everyone but himself or the Governor. The Majority Whip (Rep. Seifert) has also been working hard to avoid any accountability. It’s incredible, considering the fact that they hold the majority in the House and control the Governor’s office!

The fact that there were only 35 people at this fundraiser is as telling as anything! Most of them must have been past or present office holders, or office seekers, or local party faithfuls, (or a member of their office or campaign staffs)! To me it sounds like it was just a bunch of folks trying to puff themselves up and capture some press coverage--they were obviously successful!! With only 35 people there, they sure didn’t raise much money!
We shouldn’t be intimidated by Sviggum’s ugly rheteric. His brand of “Let me protect mine” Reverse Robinhood politics is not Bemiji either! (If you want to stoop to using the parellel labeling Sviggum used, they would be branded Conservative, right-wing extremists.) He and Ruud frustrated, angry person who is desperatly flailing out. Some DFLers who live in Bemiji or Beltrami Co. need to write letters to the Bemiji Pioneer in response to this article and point these things out to the vast numbers of DFLers who are there so they don’t start believing what Sviggum is trying to sell.
