I was a Stranger and You Welcomed Me” – The World Day of Prayer Committee in France looked closely at their society in order to truly see the least among them. They name the stranger, the migrant, and the foreigner, and present these people’s search to find a new home. The worship begins with an invitation to see that welcome is a form of praise of God. Welcome is also the first step in the process of transformation whereby the community fulfils God’s call to holiness through compassion and the community is enriched by the diversity that they encounter.

As our own Sister Monessa Overby states, “The choice to step into the invitation of another is to step out of one’s encapsulated self.” Consider this an evening to step into the invitation of these three women!

Clinging to the image of her dead husband and living in her memories, Madalena is awakened by the arrival of Rita, a young photographer who is arriving in the ghost village of Jotuomba, where time seems to have stopped. A deep relationship is forged between the two women, which gradually builds to have a profound effect on both of their lives, as well as the rest of the villagers.
