For more than three years, Republican Congressional leaders have given President Bush a rubber stamp on the Iraq War.  But a bipartisan revolt is beginning to spread.

Republican Rep. Walter Jones and Democratic Rep. Neil Abercrombie have introduced a House Resolution that demands an open debate and vote on alternative solutions for the war in Iraq.  95 members of Congress have already signed on to the Resolution, but 218 signatures are needed to force a 17-hour floor debate.  Will you help garner 123 more signatures for the discharge petition?  Call Congress today and ask your representative to sign the petition for an open debate:

Congressional Switchboard: (202) 225-1904

Momentum for the effort is building.  Over the past two months, we’ve been working hand-in-hand with the incredible leadership team at DC for Democracy to coordinate congressional contact campaigns by DFA groups around the country.  We’re also working with Win Without War, MoveOn Political Action, and a coalition of other groups to bring this issue back to the forefront.

When you call, tell the staffer who answers the phone the following:

“I am a constituent and I support H. Res. 543—the discharge petition calling for an open debate about the war in Iraq. Congress shouldn’t be a rubber stamp for the president or this war any longer.”

After you make your call, please let us know how it went at:

The debate will require that Congress consider and vote on all amendments offered as alternatives to the Bush administration’s policies in Iraq.  It’s a measure that all members of Congress should get behind.

Thanks for everything for you do.
