The Star Tribune came out hard against the repeal of the estate tax

"Letter to Editor"

04/17/2005

The Star Tribune came out hard against the repeal of the estate tax
today. Their logic is irrefutable. The article concludes:

“[T]he choice comes down to this: protecting that part of 0.3 percent
of American estates that exceed $3.5 million or $7 million from a
well-established tax or protecting Social Security’s ability to
continue paying promised benefits to America’s retired wage earners.
The estate tax doesn’t make anyone poor, but repealing it very well
might.... As the House vote to repeal the estate tax demonstrates,
there is no logic to what passes for fiscal policy in Washington
these days.”

Congressmen Gil Gutknecht and Mark Kennedy, who claim they support
fiscal responsibility, both voted to repeal the estate tax.
