News Updates for LWV Rochester:

1.  The LWVMN sponsored gubernatorial and senatorial debates will be carried live on Channel 6 News First on October 29, beginning at 6 PM.  See the KAAL News Release below for details.  Please share this information with friends and family.

2.  Reminder: The LWV Rochester sponsored candidate forums are this week at UCR Heintz Center:

a.  Monday, Oct. 23:  County Attorney, 7 PM; County Commissioner District 4, 7:45 PM

b.  Tuesday, Oct. 24:  Mayor, 7 PM; City Council - 5th Ward, 7:45 PM; 3rd Ward, 8:30; 1st Ward, 9:15

c.  Wednesday, Oct. 25, 7 PM:  District 29 & 30 House and Senate, running concurrently

d.  Thursday, Oct. 26:  School Board - Seat 6, 6:30; Seat 5, 7:15; Seat 4, 8 PM; Seat 2, 8:45 PM

KAAL News Release:  Watch Live Governor and Senate Debates on 6 News First on October 29

The League of Women Voters MN will sponsor two live, televised debates Sunday, October 29th from 6 to 8 PM.  KAAL 6 News First is pleased to announce that it will present both debates in cooperation with KSTP Eyewitness News, Production Sponsor.

The live Debates will be broadcast from Brady Education Center at St. Thomas University in St. Paul.

Three candidates for MN Governor will debate at 6 PM, Incumbent Tim Pawlenty (R), Mike Hatch (D) and Peter Hutchinson (I).

The US Senate candidate debate begins at 7 PM with Amy Klobuchar(D), Mark Kennedy(R),
and Robert Fitzgerald(I). Senior Reporter Carla Johnson will represent 6 News First
at the October 29th debates.

LWVMN President Helen Palmer states, “We are pleased to bring the Gubernatorial and
Senate candidates together to discuss issues that are on the minds of Minnesotans.
The purpose of these debates is to educate the public about campaign issues, provide an
opportunity for voters to hear candidates discuss those issues face-to-face,
and stimulate public interest and participation in the election.” The League of Women
Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, has sponsored debates since 1978.

This organization encourages informed and active participation in government,
works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influence public
policy through education and advocacy. LWVMN ’06 Candidate Debates are supported
by contributions to League of Women Voters Minnesota Education Fund, a
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Funding of Debates ’06 is made possible by a major
grant from Target Foundation with additional support from the Medtronic Foundation.
