We did it!

"Letter to Editor"

08/07/2007

Dear DFLers,

I've got great news - over the weekend, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Clean Energy Bill that we've all been working so hard on these last few months!

The Clean Energy Bill is a win-win-win for the environment, for our economy and for consumers. Passing this critical legislation is a major step toward reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, combating global warming, and decreasing air pollution.

It is clear to me that the dedication of LCV activists was a major factor in getting us this far. Thousands of LCV activists like you sent letters, made phone calls, and generously donated to help our campaign to pass the Clean Energy Bill, and I can't thank you enough.

So what now? Well, the House and Senate both passed different versions of the bill. The House voted for a renewable electricity standard amendment and the Senate bill includes vehicle fuel efficiency standards. I know, it's a lot of legislative jargon but what it all basically means is that our next move is to make sure that the Clean Energy Bill that goes to the President's desk includes both of these provisions.

I'll keep you updated on next steps, and I look forward to working with you to ensure that the final bill includes both renewable electricity and fuel efficiency standards.

Thank you again for all of your help!

Sincerely,

Gene Karpinski
President, LCV
