On Tuesday, July 26th, Patty will be in Washington, DC as a featured speaker at a press conference announcing new legislation that will dramatically change the way sex offenders are treated by our laws. The new provisions are amendments to the original sex offender registration law named after Patty’s son.
The Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act was passed as part of the Federal Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. This law requires states to implement a sex offender and crimes against children registry. This groundbreaking law has served as the foundation for subsequent laws cracking down on sex offenders.
Patty will be appearing at the press conference with fellow Minnesotan, Linda Walker, mother of Dru Sjodin; John Walsh of “America’s Most Wanted”; Ernie Allen, Chairman of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; and Nancy Grace of Court TV.
Following the press conference, Patty will be interviewed by several national news stations to discuss the changes to this law. Tune in to see Patty in action.
