Walk for Heartbeats

Soldiers Field Park
MLH of SE MN is a support group for families and individuals affected by congenital heart defects and disease (CHD). We deliver care packages in the hospital after a child's open heart surgery and have monthly educational and support meetings at Ronald McDonald House.

Fun for a great cause! Dunk the Doctors, bounce house and inflated slide, cake walk with cupcakes decorated in style by Kohl's associates, face painting by Giggle Givers, craft activity by Wildflowers Ceramics, hair bling and feathers, McDonald's beanbag toss, and many other activities and games for children of all ages. An ambulance and police car will be on-hand to explore. Plus musical entertainment and concessions, silent auction items and raffle prizes. Entry is $5 per child or $15 per family; adults free. Goody bags with valuable coupons, including a free bounce at Bounce World. Visiting author Shirley Tucker

Born in the doctor’s bed in a leper colony, Shirley Tucker spent her early years in Zambia. Despite having no access to children’s books, her love of stories began with her father, who entertained the family with spontaneous stories of animals while traveling long distances on dusty roads.
At eight, she moved with her family to Zimbabwe where she eventually became a teacher and told stories of her own. She then moved to South Africa, where she met her Canadian husband, Mark.
After a number of years in Canada, Mark and Shirley returned to South Africa, where they founded Phakamani Foundation. Diamonds in the Dust is her first novel.
