Human Rights Video Project - Behind the Labels
Tuesday, March 1, 7 - 8:30
Rochester Public Library Auditorium

We are all global citizens.  You are invited to view and discuss
documentaries on human rights topics.  Videos are from the library
collection; provided by a grant from the Human Rights Video Project in
partnership with the American Library Assocation.  These programs are
free and open to the public.

“Made in the U.S.” can include clothes made by garmet workers in U.S.
Saipan. Learn about these workers and their work conditions. Discussion
following the documentary.

Town Hall - Health Care
Wednesday March 2 7:00PM - 8:45PM
Rochester Public Library Auditorium

State Representative Tina Liebling and State Representative Andy Welti will host a town hall on health care.  This forum is hosted by the Minnesota House DFL Caucus.

Mayowood Trail and Trailhead Discussion
Thursday March 3 5:00PM - 7:00PM
Bamber Valley School Foyer

There will be a meeting to discuss the proposed Mayowood Trail and
Trailhead on Thursday in the Bamber Valley School Foyer.  Olmsted County
recently secured federal funding to design and build a pedestrian and
bicycle trail to connect the Zumbro South Trail and the Mayowood Road
trail along County Road 125.  County officials are seeking public input

Risks to Public land

The Wasioja Chapter of the Sierra Club is sponsoring a free talk about
what it sees as threats to public land.  The club says public land in
Alaska, Utah, and Colorado is threatened if opened to logging or oil and
gas exploration.  The speaker will be Clayton Daugherbauch, a national
conservation organizer with the club.

Death Penaly Debate

This debate is sponsored by the Rochester League of Women Voters.  Attorney Richard Bins will debate the pros and Reverand Nick Mezacappa will debate the cons.

Kiwanas Chili Feed

Saturday March 5 11:00am - 7:00PM
Rochester Senior Citizen Center
North Broadway
$6 adults; $3 children 5-12;

The five Rochester Kiwanis clubs are sponsoring the chili feed. All proceeds will go to the senior center. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children age 5 to 12. Children younger than 5 are admitted free.

Immigration Issues

IMMA 300 11th Ave NW Suite 110

Immigration issues will be the topic of a meeting March 5.  Several
legislators are expected to attend the meeting to discuss pending
legislation and listen to concerns of local immigrant groups.  To

LULAC Mexican Dinner
Saturday, March 5, 5-7 p.m.
Boys & Girls Club
Tickets $10

LULAC (League of United Latino American Citizens) has started a chapter
in Rochester. This national organization promotes the advancement of the
Hispanic population. The first fundraiser meeting will be an
all-you-can-eat homemade Mexican dinner. Tickets are $10. For more

Human Rights Video Project: Promises
Tuesday, March 8, 7 - 8:30
Rochester Public Library Auditorium

The personal stories and emotions of seven Palestinian and Israeli
children (ages 8-13) offer information and lessons about conflict and
peace. Suitable for young audiences. Discussion following the
documentary.

International Luncheon at YMCA

$6.50 Rochester International Association or YMCA members
$7.50 Non-members

International Lunches At the Y. Everyone is invited to attend the luncheon meetings on the second Wednesdays of each month at 11:30 AM in Balfour Hall of the Rochester Family Y. The cost is $6.50 for RIA or Y members, $7.50 for non-members. Bring friends; join or renew memberships at the lunch. Advance reservations are needed. iFilm : Alexandra’s Project (Drama - English)

It’s Steve’s (Gary Sweet) birthday and things can’t seem to get better.
After receiving a much awaited promotion, Steve returns home expecting to
find his wife Alexandra (Helen Buday) and his two children waiting to
surprise him.  Instead, he discovers an abandoned house and a mysterious
video tape that he is forced to watch.

The iFilm series is intended for mature adults.  Please provide your
guidance to your children.  Admission is free.

Zumbro Watershed Partnership Meeting

The Zumbro Watershed Partnership’s mission is to protect and improve the
Zumbro Watershed by promoting good land stewardship, public awareness and
identifying technical and financial programs to help landowners.  They

This series provides you with an excellent opportunity to ask our area state legislators about the issues that affect your business and your community; and to hear the latest news from the 2005 legislative session.

Please register with the Rochester Chamber of Commerce. The cost is $15 for Chamber members and $30 for non-Chamber members.  Please note that if you work for a company that is a Chamber member, you can attend Eggs and Issues for the member fee of $15.00.

African American Baseball Players in Minnesota

Dr. Steve Hoffbeck from MSU Moorhead will discuss his book, Swinging for

the Yaggy Colby History Lecture Series and is free and open to the

Inter-Tribal Powwow
March 25-27
National Guard Armory
1715 Marion Road S.E.

An intertribal powwow hosted by the American Indian Center of Rochester
will be held March 25-27 at the National Guard Armory, 1715 Marion Road
S.E., Rochester.  Doors open at 6:00PM March 25 and a drum warm-up will
begin at 7:00PM.  Doors open at 10:00AM March 26 and 27.  The grand entry will be at 1:00pm and 7:00PM March 26 and at 1 PM March 27.  An EasterEgg hunt will be at noon March 27.  Admission is free but donations will be accepted.  Buttons for $5 each will be sold at the door.  Volunteers

Film: End of Suburbia

Note: I need to find the exact date for this film.  The library web page says Wednesday March 27 but the 27th is not a Wednesday.

Through interviews with scientists and policy makers this documentary
explores the premise that American suburbs, built on the easy
availability of fossil fuels, may become untenable.
