PUBLIC FORUM TO BE HELD TO ADDRESS ROCHESTER HEALTH & REHAB EAST
NEGATIVE CONSUMER REPORTS RATING
Wed Aug 23 3:00PM
Government Center board room, Rochester

ROCHESTER – A public forum will be held on Wednesday, August 23, in
the board room of the Government Center in Rochester at 3:00 p.m. to
discuss issues related to the recent listing of Rochester Health &
Rehab East as one of the worst nursing homes in the nation by Consumer
Reports magazine.

On August 9, it was announced that Consumer Reports had listed
Rochester Health & Rehab East as one the 12 nursing homes in the
nation to avoid. The rating was based on inspections conducted in
April 2005. However, a recent survey has indicated that nearly 90
percent of the center’s residents and their families are satisfied
with the center and would recommend it to others. Moreover, news
reports have quoted local officials and residents who adamantly
disagree with the magazine’s assessment.

“The time is now for the facts to be presented to the public,” said
State Representative Fran Bradley (R-Rochester). “The Consumer Reports
rating appears to be outdated and inaccurate, at best. We intend to
counter the negative rating with current facts and will hear from
several voices in the community that can attest to the quality
services offered by Rochester Health & Rehab East.”

Representatives from the Family Council, Minnesota Health Department,
Resident Council, Rochester Health & Rehab East, and interested
members of the public are slated to give presentations.  “This event
is completely open to the public, and all are welcome to extend
invitations to anyone who might be interested,” Bradley said.

On Saturday, March 25, 1911 at 4:45 p.m., a discarded cigarette
ignites a fire in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory off Manhattan’s
Washington Square. Panic erupts. In the space of 28 minutes the fire
is brought under control - but 146 Polish, Russian and Italian female
immigrant workers are dead. Historic accounts of the tragedy serve as
resources for telling how the enraged outcry inspired by the shocking
acquittal of those held responsible, shape social, political and
economic policies for decades to come.
