Give back to communities Saturday, Sept 6th
"Letter to Editor"09/01/2008
I urge everyone who is able to find a way to contribute in some way to their community on Saturday Sept 6th. If you can't find anything else, take a plastic bag and pick up trash in a park or something. I will be cooking at Saturday Noon Meals at Christ United Methodist Church. If you would like more information about this please feel free to call me at 286-1061 or e-mail me at
The energy in Denver was great. On Wednesday, they held the first-ever Delegate Service Day. More than one thousand volunteers from all over the country - from first time delegates to President and Mrs. Carter - gave back to communities in the Denver area at 30 service events.
Let's keep the momentum going! On Saturday, September 6th, volunteers will work at service events across the country. We have teamed up with the grassroots group Obama Works and other local organizations to put the Democratic values that Senator Obama talked about last night into action with a National Day of Service.
Click here to sign up for an event in your neighborhood on Saturday, September 6th! You might even get a free Democrats Work t-shirt!
Right now, we have over 20 events planned in 10 states. Volunteers will be working at service projects across the map - from a work crew in Seattle who will be beautifying the grounds of a high school to volunteers cleaning neighborhoods in Red Lion, PA and even across an ocean where Democrats will be recycling in Oahu, HI.
Let's show our neighbors that Democrats are active, visible and engaged in our communities! This is an exciting time for Democrats and for Democrats Work. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Thomas Bates
Co-Founder & Executive Director
P.S. More events are being added every day. But if you don't see a service event in your town, you can get one started and we'll help: click here to see how to get involved.
