"Community Events"02/05/2007
Mantorville, MN - Midwest based national touring performer Joe Jencks will join forces with Elisa Korenne, a Brooklyn-based national touring performer, for a concert at Mantorville’s Old Opera House, 7 West Fifth Street. The concert will be held on Sunday, February 18th, at 7:00 p.m.
Joe Jencks has won national awards and recognition for his songs about working people and for his unique merging of musical beauty, social consciousness, and spiritual exploration. He blends humor with sincerity in his powerful and provocative performances. Jencks weaves a diverse web of stories with brilliant musical skill, ensnaring even the most rigid of hearts, inviting them to open. The Seattle Folklore Society describes a Joe Jencks’ concert as, “An occasion for singing, a contagious rising up of voices, an act of joy and defiance, tapping into the latent, nearly mystical beauty that a roomful of people can unleash by singing together!” Jencks has shared the stage with folk luminaries including Pete Seeger, Holly Near, John McCutcheon, Utah Phillips, and Pat Humphries. A conservatory trained vocalist, Jencks has studied classical and contemporary performance styles as well as choral conducting at the undergraduate and graduate level. Jencks was recently featured on a National Public Radio: Car Talk- compilation CD.
Along with her rich voice, smoldering live performances, and elegant songcraft, Elisa Korenne brings a rare authenticity to her music. After cutting her teeth in the high-caliber New York City music scene, the preeminent independent music retailer CD Baby hailed Elisa as “one of the best we’ve ever heard” and Singer & Musician magazine said she “belongs on anyone’s must-play list.” As a performer, Elisa has been a headliner at regional, national, and international festivals. In 2005, the Nevers-a-Vif music festival in France chose Elisa to open the line-up of international artists. She has earned songwriting awards from the Plowshares Songwriting Contest, Sisters Folk Festival, Great American Song Contest, Song of the Year, Song Prize, and the Philadelphia Songwriters’ Project. Now Minnesota is her home base. Come and enjoy both these artists with Minnesota roots.
