With less than 24 hours to go before the competitive DFL gubernatorial primary, the party’s endorsed candidate, Margaret Anderson Kelliher, rallied several hundred campaign staffers and supporters at a local union in Minneapolis before departing on a massive two hour lit drop across the area.
Campaign staffers, legislators and local party activists listened to Kelliher, campaign treasurer Sen. Scott Dibble, DFL-Minneapolis, and U.S. senators Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar as they praised the group for their efforts.
“This is the people-power campaign,” Dibble told the crowd. “This is the people power campaign and it is people power that will surge us to victory.”
Kelliher is challenging two well-heeled opponents in Tuesdays primary. Former state Rep. Matt Entenza has sunk more than $5 million into his campaign, and former U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton has laid down several million himself. Kelliher has consistently said phone calls, door knocking and the support of the entire DFL will get her to the governor’s office.
“We believe in the power of people in elections,” she said. “Twenty-two years ago Paul Wellstone taught me how we win elections; it’s person to person, it’s door to door, that’s how it’s done.”
