Together, we passed the Wellstone Bill!

"Letter to Editor"

10/04/2008

Today is the day we passed the Wellstone Bill.

Today is a great day. After years of hard work marked by strong advocacy, setbacks, compromises, and progress, Congress passed the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 – comprehensive mental health and addiction parity legislation in honor my dad. It's on its way to the President's desk.

This bill is a major achievement, one I know my dad would be proud of. It will go a long way to ease the pain and suffering of those with mental illness and addiction, and I am proud to have been part of this effort.

You, too, should be proud. Since 2003, you have sent tens of thousands of faxes, made thousands of phone calls, and hundreds of visits to members of Congress. I can't overstate how crucial your activism has been in keeping this issue on the national agenda in an election year crowded with issues and politics - and I thank you. Wellstone Action thanks you. This legislation will save countless lives.
