WALZ ANNOUNCES ALCOHOL ABUSE REDUCTION GRANT TO AUSTIN SCHOOL DISTRICT

(Austin, MN) – Today, Congressman Tim Walz announced that Austin Public Schools ISD #492 has been selected to receive a grant in the amount of $232,059 for the purpose of developing an implementing an alcohol abuse prevention program for secondary school students.
“I applaud Austin Public Schools for taking the initiative in combating alcohol abuse amongst school children,” said Rep. Tim Walz. “These funds will give Austin the opportunity to develop an innovative and effective program to help area youth abstain from underage alcohol consumption.”
Funding and technical assistance will be provided to the Austin Public Schools through an interagency agreement between the U.S. Department of Education and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
