A Vigil Of Darkness

GOP Senators who are filibustering Legislation to end the war in Iraq and to bring home our troops have called the effort “meaningless and nonsense.” They have label the effort as "political theater" and treat the whole thing with disdain.
That is in spite of the fact that 70% of the American people want this war to end. The American people see it as a war that is costing too many lives, that has lasted for too long, and that is hurting us economically.
The GOP just blows off more than 70% of the American public.
This is not trivial for they were elected to represent the people of their Districts.
You know that the 70% national figure of people wanting to end the Iraq War translates into 50 States each having two District representatives in the Senate. The GOP Senators are not representing the wishes of their Districts. In other words they are violating their oath of office.
Here in Minnesota that is true of Sen. Norm Coleman. He ignores the demands of those whom he is sworn to represent even as he sides with an Administration that receives only a 28% approval rating across our nation. He expects us to vote for him in 2008 yet he refuses to represent us. It is this way in other states too. It is wrong, wrong, wrong.
Some of these GOP Senators have tried to have it both ways, saying that they oppose the Bush direction in Iraq in order to appease the folks back home and then voting to keep the war on-going.
During these dark hours Democrats are lighting a candle to shed light on a failed war, an attempt to illegally pirate the oil belonging to the Iraqi people, a failed foreign policy, and the deaths of over 3,600 American servicemen and women. We are seeking to lead and to represent the American people and their decision to move-on. We are doing the morally and politically right thing.
The GOP is blowing out this candle and refusing to do what the American people want done. They have left America in darkness.
This is disgusting. It is not “nonsense” to end the theft of oil belonging to others. It is not “meaningless” to preserve life. It is not “theater” to bring home our troops in one piece.
The GOP is not leading, not following, and is in the way.
We are left speechless and can only ask that you pray for their enlightenment.
