Action Alert! Act Now to Increase State Minimum Wage
04/29/2008
Dear Editor,
Act Now to Increase the State Minimum Wage!
300,000 Minnesotans make less then $8/hour; substantially less then poverty line. We envision a Minnesota where economic justice is a reality for everyone in Minnesota. A Minnesota where every family receives not just the bare minimum, but a real living wage. The Minnesota House is considering taking a giant step in that direction by increasing the state minimum wage from $6.15 an hour to $7.90 an hour.
Call your State Representative and ask them to vote yes on SF 875 to increase the state minimum wage. Please ask your Representative to oppose any amendment to establish a "tip penalty" which would create a lower minimum wage for servers, bartenders and other tipped workers. Act now, the minimum wage bill may be up for a full House vote on Thursday May 1st. Call your legislator today!
Click here to find out who your legislator is.
Then call Governor Pawlenty at 651-296-3391. Tell him to sign the minimum wage increase. Tell Pawlenty that a tip penalty unfairly targets food service workers who deserve fair wages for a fair day’s work; the same as everyone else.
Thanks,
