Greetings!

On October 6th, Al Franken will be in Detroit Lakes for “An Evening with Al Franken & Friends” sponsored by the Becker County DFL.  We are sharing this information with you for several reasons: 1) We’d love to have you join us for this fun event and 2) We’d like to share an opportunity where your County Unit could also make some money from this event. 

First of all, here is an overview of what is planned for the evening:

From 7:00 to 8:00 pm there will be a “Candidate Meet & Greet” in the Ballroom at the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center.  There will be a cash bar available and complimentary “Campaign Trail Mix” for everyone to enjoy. The goal here will be to have all the statewide candidates present, as well as Minnesota Senators, Representatives and Candidates.  The atmosphere will be casual, with the goal being opportunities to connect and talk with each other.  We are also asking the campaigns to have additional materials available if anyone needs signs, etc. still at that point.

Then, the program begins at 8:00 pm in the Historic Holmes Theatre (across the hall from the Ballroom) with Congressman Collin Peterson singing and playing guitar with The Shadows as his back-up band.  Some of you may remember The Shadows as Bobby Vee’s back-up band.  They are very good musicians and will provide us with entertaining and enjoyable music!  Between a series of songs, we have invited Mike Hatch and Amy Klobuchar to speak.  Confirmation is still pending, but this is what is planned.  After the music and Mike and Amy, Al Franken will “headline” the evening. 

Tickets are available through the Historic Holmes Theatre by calling 218-844-SHOW or emailing Please note this is not a secure web site, let them know how many tickets you want and they will call you back for credit card information.  Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students.

We have designed a poster for the evening with photos of Al Franken and the “All Stars of the DFL Ticket” and can make them available to you if you think they would be useful.

THE OPPORTUNITY:  For many reasons, it is our goal to “Sell Out” the Theatre (which doesn’t happen very often).  There are approximately 800 seats available (some additional seats are being reserved for press, etc.).  Any County Unit that would like to join us in helping to sell tickets to the event will share in the proceeds.  We will pay each county unit $5.00 for every ticket they sell.  The box office will keep track of which county people are coming from and we will “rebate” each county unit sending folks to the event.  We think this can be a win-win-win for everyone!  We understand this may be of greater interest to those who are geographically located closer to Detroit Lakes, but wanted to share the opportunity with everyone in the 7th as well as some of our neighbors in the 8th.
