Amy Update
03/23/2007
Dear Friends,
With Amy in the news so much over the past few weeks, we've had a lot of requests for links to recent speeches, interviews and articles that some of you may have heard about but missed.
By far, the most requests we’ve heard have come for what the Star Tribune called the "fiery" senate floor speech Amy recently gave on Veterans issues and the war in Iraq. In it, Amy highlights the plight of our brave veterans and calls on the President "to bring our troops home safely and to honor our returning soldiers and their families by giving them the care and benefits they deserve."
Last weekend, the Pioneer Press published an op-ed piece Amy offered following her major Veterans speech on the floor of the United States Senate. In it, she underscores our obligation as a nation to “wrap our arms around those who sacrifice for us”. Click the following link to go to the Pioneer Press website to read the essay in it entirety.
And Tuesday, Amy spent some time on Minnesota Public Radio’s Morning Edition speaking with Cathy Wurzer about her recent trip to Iraq. While there, she visited with the troops, talked with commanders in the field, and saw first hand, in Baghdad and the war-torn city of Fallujah, the brave and tireless work of American soldiers, marines and National Guard members serving their country on the frontlines.

We are so proud of the outstanding work Amy is doing in Washington in these first few months. She has been a strong advocate of more affordable health care – a true leader in the fight to push for negotiations with the drug companies. As a member on the Environment & Public Works and Agriculture Committees, she's on the frontlines in the effort to develop workable solutions to global warming and energy independence and, every day, she continues to fight for a change of course in Iraq.
Many of you have asked how you can stay involved. Well, we still need your help, and by continuing to support Amy though contributions to our campaign, you'll be giving Amy the freedom to focus entirely on representing you and all of Minnesota in Washington.

We're paying our last outstanding campaign bills now (you know better than most how expensive our victory was last November) and we need to continue to help Amy as she visits all 87 Minnesota counties this year. Your contribution will help pay for parade fees, gas as she crisscrosses the state and buttons and bumper stickers – we're completely out and need to order more soon!
During the campaign we asked you to give all you could to help change the direction of the country and bring Minnesota values to Washington. With Amy's help it's happening right now.
Today we're asking you to continue your commitment by giving just a little more.

Thank you very much for all you've done and for your ongoing commitment to our vision for a stronger Minnesota and a better America.
Sincerely,
Tom Perron
