Bush Bash Not Effective
02/08/2006
Personally, and speaking just for myself and not for anyone else, I was not very thrilled with the Bush bashing that went on at the funeral of Mrs. King today. I thought it pretty tasteless.
For me it had echoes of past behavior at the memorial service for Paul Wellstone and that was a disaster for our Party and it may have cost us the 2002 election.
We are working way too hard here in the grassroots to have that effort squandered by high visibility political speakers. Those people have plenty of access to the media in other venues to make their points. A little more decorum was needed at this funeral in my personal opinion.
I had the sense today that whenever Democrats gather they behave like they never had a crowd together before.
The world is not a better place today for this bashing. Bush is not going to change anything either—no more than a zebra is going to change his stripes and become a horse.
We Democrats know what must be done and we know that the place to do it is at the election polls.
Let’s get on with what we must do and the sooner the better and without a lot of grandstanding. Our war with Bush is one of imaginative ideas and effective programs. Let’s concentrate on the quality of those.
