Bush Is Selling America Out

12/06/2005

Paul Munnis

The recent inking of a deal between China and the EU for a $9.7 Billion dollar Air Bus order plus added orders for European helicopters is a real slap in the face to the U.S. and is further evidence of the Bush failed mission to China in November.

Mr. Bush went to China, made a fool of himself with his Lance Armstrong grandstanding, while preaching to them about Human Rights even as his own Administration is committing wholesale torture and abuse of prisoners and sponsoring government snatches of suspects and hustling them off to foreign enclaves for torture and abuse.

Mr. Bush failed to bring home the bacon in China trade from his recent trip too.

Add to that the continuing lag by the Chinese in revaluation of the Yuan and there appears to be a growing case for slapping stiff tariffs onto Chinese made goods for import into the USA.

Fair trade is a two way street and is supposed to result in a neutral balance of payments on account. If a neutral balance of trade accounts does not occur then its unfair trade and something must be done to fix the problem.

Taking American money at inflated currency exchange rates and then using it to buy European goods is simply unsatisfactory.

What we should do and what we will do are two different matters entirely. We should put stiff tariffs on China goods. We won’t and it’s because of American borrowing to fund our deficit and the war in Iraq. Also, the economy is being held hostage to a large degree because tariffs will raise the price of China goods and be inflationaty for the U.S. economy.

Here is another example of why deficit spending is so costly for Americans. We end up lacking clout in trade negotiation as we must be both beggar and borrower. We are borrowing Chinese money in huge amounts and we can’t afford to say “No” to them.

Mr. Bush is selling America out to the Chinese. He is ineffective at foreign policy and diplomacy and sponsors poor trade policies. Congress is the GOP’s partner in selling America out to foreign interests.

American citizens are paying a high price for cheap Chinese goods sold at discount stores. We can fix these problems by firing the people in Congress who are complicit in these matters. The people of Minnesota will have absolutely no problem identifying who they are. Let’s clean out our own corner of the planet and trust that Americans in other states willl do the same.
