Calls For Street Demonstration Increasing

Only a fool would think that this current mess in Washington will not boil over into the streets of America. As the weather warms up street demonstrations will increase in frequency, volume, intensity, and media coverage. As Congress ignores people the demonstrations will turn ugly. The GOP has so split our nation over war that it has gone full circle and the nation has healed itself with nearly seven out of every ten Americans wanting to see this war in Iraq come to an end and our troops come home - pronto. Bush is just flipping them out and doing what he wants and people don’t like that even a little bit.
So who will these demonstrations be directed at – just Mr. Bush and his Administration?
People know three things: First that G.W. Bush is a creation of their own election pattern. They voted for him not once but twice. They knew he was a problem after his first term yet they brought him back for another four years. Bush is a product of their creation.
Second, they voted to get rid of a pure GOP Congress after watching America get destroyed by neo-cons that they had elected in order to avoid paying taxes. Alas, they discovered that there is no free lunch in running a free government. Indeed they saw America warping into a fascist nation as the neo-cons intruded further and further into our American life destroying life, liberty, and the very pursuit of happiness.
Third, they know they did not give enough medicine to Congress to fix the mess they have made. Democrats do not have the needed votes in our Senate to get the job done. The result is government grid-lock in Washington and more Bush flipping out the people using his Congressional messengers to make his point.
So there are two objects of these demonstrations: the Bush Administration and fellow American voters. They want Bush to knock off his bad behavior and to get the war in Iraq wrapped up. They want fellow voters to realize that we screwed up and we need to fix things, especially in the Senate. The crowds and their demonstrations recall shouts of “Give us Barrabas” oh so many years ago.
There is a third targeted group in government. We will see lots of GOP Senatorial candidates for re-election start to visibly sweat. It has already begun and it will get much worse. Those serving as GOP mouthpieces in Congress will begin to know that they are being held accountable for their words and actions. Indeed that was the object of the vote in the Senate for yesterdays’ Iraqi War resolution. It was to get individual Senators on record as to where they stand in opposition to this war in Iraq. Now it is a matter of record on who stands where concerning this unpopular war. Senator Harry Reid knew he did not have the votes to pass the resolution - it was not about passage – it was about accountability. Those causing government grid-lock are out in the open now and they have lost their wiggle room and cover. These are now targeted Senate seats for the 2008 election. These are the key recipients of the message arising from coming street demonstrations. It will be hard for them to appear in their Districts this summer as they are pointed at with angst and scorn by voters.
So it’s coming on like a fast freight train and its carrying a message that harkens back to France and crowds shouting “Liberty, Fraternity and Equality,” and it can build and get nasty as street justice takes over. I wish that it weren’t so but it is shaping up as Bush versus America and Americans have a loud message to deliver. Woe to those who do not listen.
