Camp Wellstone Returns to Minnesota
01/11/2008
Progressive Training a Springboard for 2008 CampaignsWhile national political attention focuses on those other cold-weather states, Camp Wellstone makes its annual return to Minnesota this weekend with a hands-on training program that provides practical skills in grassroots politics to citizen activists, campaign workers, and candidates for elected office.
Camp Wellstone is an intensive and energizing training program that is proven effective in providing practical skills for political action. Camp Wellstone teaches local candidates and their campaigns to win by standing up for a progressive agenda and bringing new people into the process, and everyday activists to organize and mobilize their communities to demand change.
This strategy is not only outside-the-box political thinking, but a proven path to winning elections. In 2006 and 2007, 112 graduates of the program won elected office – 51 of them from Minnesota, including Congressman Tim Walz and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie.
Committed to our progressive values, Wellstone Action is partnering with Eureka Recycling, a local non-profit waste reduction organization, and Common Roots Cafe, the Twin Cities’ premier sustainable caterer, for the first "waste-free" Camp Wellstone. With careful planning and the participation of everyone involved, our training can generate no waste, greatly reducing our environmental impact.
