Dear Editor,
First let me thank you for your support. Today, I am your voice in Congress because you spoke up for me on November 7th with your volunteer time, your contributions and most importantly, your votes.
Since being sworn in twelve short weeks ago, I've had the opportunity to deliver the Democratic response to President Bush's weekly radio address, to vote to improve veterans' health care, and to begin the drafting process of the 2007 Farm Bill. The first bill I cosponsored in Congress was one that would raise the minimum wage to $7.25, benefiting thousands of working families in our district and around the country. Additionally, I am proud of my leadership role in holding this President accountable for his failures in Iraq. I voted to insist that our troops have an achievable mission and measurable milestones in Iraq because that is the job you sent me to Washington to do.
In order to be able to continue to work for you, I need your help. The short political cycle for a Congressional seat demands that I continue to ask for your support. Today, three opponents are running against me and several more candidates will likely jump in the race before the primary election comes around. These opponents are not swayed by my voting record – to them it doesn’t matter that I've kept my campaign promises to the people of southern Minnesota.
The only thing that will deter these candidates and keep me working for you is a strong show of your support. Your donation of $25, 50, 100 or more will help me demonstrate that my support has not faded and that the people of southern Minnesota believe that it is time the Congress takes action on the important issues of our time.
Your help is essential to continuing this urgent work. March 31st is an important date, because it is the first financial filing deadline in the 2008 election cycle. Can I count on you for a donation of $25, 50 or $100 to help me demonstrate that our grassroots network is stronger than ever?
I hope you will consider donating online at http://www.timwalz.org by the March 31st deadline.
Please accept my sincere gratitude for all you've done and all you continue to do – not just for me, but for our country and the health of our democracy.
Warmest regards and with my deepest gratitude,
- Congressman Tim Walz
