Ceresi: How you can bring change to Washington

Dear Friend,

On caucus night you became part of an historic event. Over 200,000 people showed up all saying the same thing: It’s time for change in Washington!

As Thomas Jefferson said “Every generation needs a new revolution.” Jefferson meant a revolution of spirit and ideas. I entered the U.S. Senate race because it is time to take back our government so it reflects our values.

I have spent my life bringing people together to bring about change. I have faced the most entrenched special interest groups and won. I have defended the rights of those who were taken advantage of by the most powerful. My experience and judgment coupled with courage and determination has brought justice to Minnesotans who needed it most!

As Minnesota’s next U.S. Senator I will be your champion in Washington.

I was against the Iraq War from the beginning. As your Senator I will vote to rescind the original war resolution bill and bring our troops home.

Health care is a right and not a privilege. As your Senator I will work to provide every American with universal, quality, affordable, accessible, and portable health care.

We need to scrap “No Child Left Behind” and other unfunded educational mandates so that all children have access to the education they deserve. My 21st Century Education Fund will allow students to go to college and graduate without the staggering debt that for many is as large as a mortgage without the house.

I will vote to rollback the Bush tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans. I will work to create good paying American jobs, make sure pensions are fully funded, and push for fair trade agreements. Through innovation, technology and renewable sources of energy we can grow our economy. More...
Every generation faces a defining moment. That time is now; we have it within our grasp to take this country in a new direction. Together, we can reject the failed policies of the past and have a government that truly reflects our values. We can create a government that works hard for people who play by the rules: not Norm Coleman’s idea of government that looks out for the special interests and the powerful. We have an opportunity now to write a new chapter in our American story.

This U.S. Senate race is bringing people together to make change happen. I have spent my life doing this, and I will do this for you in Washington. Before I can stand up for you, I need you to stand up for me. I pledge to listen to you and fight for the common good, and together we will make a difference. If you are continuing on as a delegate, I ask for your support for the DFL endorsement to take on Norm Coleman. If you are not a delegate, please help by volunteering to talk with delegates about our policies and message for change. As your candidate for the U.S. Senate I will put Norm Coleman’s record on trial because it’s time to change the norm in Washington!
