Changing Course

Dear Editor,

Throughout my career I have been much more focused on foreign policy than electoral politics. But today, with a mere 13 days left to determine the course of the next two pivotal years and beyond, I am too concerned about the direction of our country to stay quiet. This must be a year of change.

As a former Secretary of State, I believe the position of the United States in the world has weakened. We cannot simply “stay the course” any longer and a change in the balance of power in our country will be the only impetus for real change. There are just 13 days left to make sure this change happens by winning a Democratic majority in Congress, and we need to make sure the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has the resources needed to win every one of those 13 days in every district.

The single most effective step you can take to shape the outcome of November’s elections is to support the DCCC. The DCCC is the only organization whose sole mission is to win a Democratic House majority. My family and I came to this country in 1948 at the very time when America was solidifying itself as a great beacon of hope, an uncompromising force for democracy, human rights and the dignity of every man and woman. These values were what inspired and motivated me to serve this country throughout my life, and my experience as both an immigrant and ultimately the first female Secretary of State only reaffirmed my faith in this country.

When we exercise our right and privilege to vote in the November elections, we reaffirm what is great in this country. I urge you not only to vote, but to have an even more involved role in determining the outcome of this election by supporting the DCCC. We need to ensure they have the resources to see these Democratic House candidates sworn in as Members of the Democratic majority of the 110th Congress.

There are less than 13 days to change the direction of this country. The results of this election will reverberate in the stature, character, and morality of our nation for decades to come—I urge you to contribute whatever you can today—it can and will make a difference.
