A press conference and earth moving ceremony will be held to kick off the Channel One “Setting the Table for the Future” expansion and remodeling project. Project details, fundraising updates, and additional information about the construction will be presented.

DATE: Wednesday, August 30, 2006

TIME: 3:30 p.m.

LOCATION: Channel One Food Bank and Food Shelf
131 35th Street SE, Rochester MN

The event will be held outside on the East end of the property.
BACKGROUND: Project Impact— The upcoming remodel and expansion project will improve the efficiency of and access to the Channel One food distribution programs. The project has three impact areas that will be addressed:

The project will triple the food shelf floor space and allow for greater efficiencies for serving food shelf customers in a “store-like” setting. This will increase the food shelf area from 824 square feet to 2,202 square feet.
An annex on the east side of the warehouse will accommodate appropriate warehouse flow and segregation of surplus / salvage product.

Increased access to second floor (with elevator) will bring the facility into ADA building compliance, uses vertical space for offices and conferences rooms, leaving the main floor for program delivery.

Fundraising— To date, $680,000 has been raised in support of the project including leadership gifts from Mayo Clinic and Think Federal Credit Union, Wells Fargo Bank, Hormel Foods and Faribault Foods.
