Concerning Number 43’s Failures

07/16/2007

Paul Munnis

Bush is acting like the only branch of government is the one that he heads. He has rebuffed Congress on everything they try to do. He has opposed every positive step forward for America. He is especially dissonant on ending war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We can understand why. After seven years in government with total control of Congress, the White House, and the Justice Department, he has nothing to show for his efforts except failure. He has failed in Afghanistan, failed in Iraq, and failed at each and every foreign policy attempt. In the process he is destroying our military. On the domestic front Mr. Bush has been building a growing disdain for his Administration and it’s coming from the American people ever since he tried to kill off Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. All of his domestic policies have been a bust.

Mr. Bush has acted negatively and everything has turned sour for him. Someplace in his education he never learned that one catches more flies with honey than with vinegar.

The whole GOP seems infected with a disease called the “No - No’s.” Instead of supporting something positive for America the GOP track record has been one of tearing things down, acting negatively to any ideas not coming from the neo-con leadership, and flipping off the American public except at election time when they lie to the public in order to get votes. The result is that Mr. Bush and his negative cronies have lost the support of the American people.

Now say what you will but we Democrats do have a plan to move America forward and I am going to mention many of these plan elements here to make my point.

We advocate alternative energy development, higher MPG rating for automobiles, more and better public transportation. We seek better investment in schools, education, and national infrastructure improvement from highways to broadband Internet connection.

We also seek a foreign policy that is not designed to build Empire for America or to seize the resources of other nations and we want peace not war as the norm for America.

If we must have war it must be moral, just, and a last resort. We do want a war against terrorism and we want it conducted in such a way that we win it because under the GOP risk of another attack on American soil is increasing. We want to implement the 911 Commission recommendations.

We also want a revenue neutral budgeting system restored and we seek to get back on track to balancing our budget. Not only that but we want to make progress on our trade deficit. When it comes to healthcare we want the finest health care system in the world for our citizens. I think I forgot to mention that we want to restore the middle class to strength and prominence in the U.S. and that is a key Democratic Party goal.

This world is the only one fit for human habitation and so we want good stewardship of the Earth and all of its resources. We see it is time to battle global warming and we want leadership that will take us there.

Speaking of people we want our Bill of Rights, our U.S. Constitution, and our legal system kept whole and intact. We want an end to torture and abuse and we seek a fair trial for all who stand accused. We do not think the President of the U.S. has the right to suspend our Constitution because he declared an unjust and immoral war. We certainly do not want Federal workers exposed to a Party loyalty litmus test. We want Separation of Powers and Separation of Church and State restored too. We did pretty well for 222 years until Mssrs. Bush, Chaney, Gonzales, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Ms. Rice came along to try to kill off the America we knew, love, built, served, and strengthened. We want our country back.

Those are the highlights of the key things that Democrats want and none of them start with killing off, or tearing down American institutions. For the most part we want to strengthen and build upon what we have. We have been serving notice on Democratic elected officials that we are serious about these matters and if they want to be elected they need to stand and deliver or else they will lose the support of ordinary Americans. Some hear us and some are as deaf and at their own political peril.

Now we believe that positive programs attract positive people to accomplish positive things while negative programs represent sickness of the spirit. We have twelve years of GOP malaise and now its time for healthy change.

We aim to conduct a peaceful revolution in America using the ballot box.

Most Americans share these visions for America as will be demonstrated in November 2008.
