Congress: Don’t Go Home Until the Job is Done!

11/16/2005

Dear Editor,

Progress stalled

Last month we were excited to share our progressive victory with you - passing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) out of both the House of Representatives and the Senate with decisive majorities.  We also let you know that the two bills still needed to be reconciled and sent to the President’s desk before Congress adjourns for 2005.

There’s still work to do

Despite all the hard work done by our Congressional leaders, the two bills have yet to go through the process necessary to make VAWA law.  We now have information that Congress may adjourn this Friday, November 18.  Leaders in the House and Senate need to stay and get the job done and send VAWA to the President to sign.  If VAWA does not pass into law this year, millions of dollars and thousands of lives are at stake.

Contact us at our website to take action today!  Let Congress know that they’ve got to finish what they’ve started.

Thanks,
The Sheila Wellstone Institute
