DAYTON STATEMENT ON THE MINNESOTA DELEGATION’S POSITION ON CAFTA
07/29/2005
July 29, 2005
Dear DFL embers and Supporters,
U.S. Senator Mark Dayton issued the following statement on the Minnesota Delegation’s position on CAFTA, taking particular issue with Mark Kennedy and Norm Coleman’s support for the bill:
“Senator Norm Coleman and Congressman Mark Kennedy betrayed the sugarbeet growers, workers, coop owners and operators, and civic leaders of west central and northwestern Minnesota.
“It is disgraceful that Congressman Mark Kennedy sold out the people of Minnesota for his own political fundraising. This is proof positive that he does not deserve to be a United States Senator.
“I give great credit to Congressman Gil Gutknecht for his principled stance against CAFTA. He joined with Congressman Collin Peterson, Congresswoman Betty McCollum, Congressman Jim Oberstar, and Congressman Martin Sabo in voting against this detrimental agreement.”
