STRATEGIC PLANNING / ELECTION DEBRIEF

Q:What is it?

A; In the last two elections the Montana Democratic Party has been incredibly successful going from complete Republican control to complete Democratic control at the state level.  They believe a strategic plan has been instrumental to their success.  The DFL seeks to emulate their success by conducting a similar strategic planning process.  We have worked with professionals in planning to develop a very grassroots-based process that will allow for maximum input from all of our stakeholders.

Q:Why is it important?

A:In the past, Party plans were written internally, this gives us the opportunity to build our plan from the ground up and encourage participation from all of the people who have a stake in our great Party.  As the “Party of the People” it is time for everyone to work together and create solutions to the Party’s challenges.

Q:Why now?

A:With the election of the new chair, this process will help provide direction and focus as well as give the new Chair and Executive committee valuable input about what works and what doesn’t work around the state.

Q:How will it work?

A:Local election debrief sessions will be conducted across the state.  All information will be provided to the Executive Committee and New Chair in June at a Retreat.  At this retreat, recurring themes and issues will be prioritized to create a Strategic Plan.

Q:What will we do with the information?

A:We will use it to build a document that will serve as a guide for the next two years.  You can also benefit by using the information at the local level to see what issues you want to try and improve.

Q:What can I do to make sure my local area has input into the process?

A:Conduct or attend a two hour debrief in your area.  Debriefs can be conducted anywhere Democrats will be gathering such as, Senate District or County Unit Meetings, Meet-ups or Caucus Meetings.
