DFL Convention Just Over the Horizon

At the upcoming DFL State Convention in Rochester, June 6-8, attendees expect there to be two main items of interest.

Howard Dean will be addressing the audience even as Hillary Clinton engages the DNC on her argument that she can win more votes than Obama can. His comments will be listened to carefully and eagerly for it is likely to contain news of importance to Democrats.

The other key event is a need to endorse a candidate to run against Norm Coleman for the U.S. Senate.

Al Franken will be trying to blow the dust off of his shoes over his tax problem while Nelson-Pallmeyer will be playing the old Abba song: “Take A Chance on Me.”

The results will be interesting and both stories will be reported on by the Associated Press.

DFL Delegates have a tough decision ahead concerning the State Senatorial race for to lose this race to Norm Coleman for another six years is a sickening idea for Democrats who want a Blue State on the map.

Tim Walz will be likely be present and asking for help against the attack that he is reporting that has been launched by the GOP. They have moved his Congressional seat to a focus of number 17 on their list of seats that they must win this November. Dr. Davis of the Mayo Clinic is his GOP opponent. Tim expects heavy flak and he seeks support from the DFL Party in both finance and for the GOTV effort.

Tim’s wife Gwen reports that “The negative ads started a couple of months ago. When our seven-year-old daughter, Hope, saw Tim next to Osama bin Laden in one of the attack ads, she immediately recognized that something was not right. These ads recklessly distort the truth in an attempt to scare voters.

The attacks continued a few weeks later on the radio. The same group was featuring Tim in a 60-second radio commercial, claiming he did not care for our country’s national security. I stood by his side as he served in the National Guard. Alone, I raised our daughter Hope while he served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. I know that Tim has always put America’s national security first.

The attacks continued with automatic phone calls to voters in Southern Minnesota, again using scare tactics and misinformation.

These attacks and ones sure to come in the following weeks and months are an example of the National Republicans’ politics of personal destruction. They intend to win by using a form of politics developed and perfected by Karl Rove.”

The Convention might be routine but it’s an important event and decisions reached at it will prevail through November and will reflect on the ballot.
