Party Says Pro-Coleman Ads Violate Campaign-Transparency LawsSt. Paul, MN (March 28, 2008) Today, the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission against the American Future Fund, alleging that it violated and continues to violate the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971.
The American Future Fund, as the complaint states, has failed to register and report as a political action committee with the Federal Election Commission, and also refuses to adhere to guidelines governing PACs during election years with their pro-Coleman ads airing this month.
“The American Future Fund is a shadowy organization that is breaking the rules by flooding our airwaves with unlawful political advertising that benefits Senator Coleman in his reelection bid,” said Minnesota DFL Chair Brian Melendez. “By doing so, it shows a complete disregard for fairness and transparency in campaigns. Senator Coleman’s allies must follow the law, and we are going to put a stop to their thuggery on his behalf.”
