Dump Spitzer, Pronto

GOP friends and relatives ask how I feel about Eliot Spitzer and the scandal that he has created in New York. They equate him to Democrat Bill Clinton and his sex-capade with Monica Lewinski.

Of course I remind them of their own sex-scandals with the homosexual approaches to Congressional Pages and of course with male bathroom encounters at the Minneapolis Airport by a well know GOP Senator.

All of those are interesting anecdotal parries but they don’t really express how I feel about Eliot Spitzer. I feel bad for his wife, I feel worse for his three female teenage daughters. I do not feel bad for him. He, more than many, knew exactly what he was doing and he did it so methodically that he can only be despised.

I feel bad for our Party who does not need this sort of a guy in a powerful position. Thus I think that we have to dump him pronto. He is bad for business.

I do wonder about the FBI leak. This seems another ploy by the GOP to use their offices to embarrass Democrats. They are pretty desperate and the FBI has proven itself a willing accomplice in using leaks as a substitute for proper indictments. That is how you behave when your goal is political and not judicial.

Already the GOP media are running photos and film of Spitzer with powerful Democrats such as Hillary Clinton. The inference, by association, is that Hillary is a ho. That sort of thing is bad for business for Democrats.

So the quicker that we distance our Party from Eliot Spitzer then the better it will be for us. Hopefully he will resign today or else we should join arms with the GOP and help them impeach him. The sooner that he is gone then the sooner that damage control can begin.

I will leave the rest of it to the TV talking heads who use scandal to sell dog food commercials. I don’t think there is much else to talk about. As the Catholic confession ritual says: “He has sinned exceedingly in thought, word, and deed.”

Is that human – “Yes.” Is it good for politics – “No.” So in my book – dump Spitzer, pronto!
