Focus on home life can wreck career: Study

Balancing a career with the seemingly endless demands of family life can be jaw-clenching work at times, but a new survey indicates that it can also lead to stalled careers and problems with the boss.
The study, conducted by researchers at three Ontario universities, suggests people whose family commitments impact on their work life are given fewer career-advancing opportunities and have poorer relationships with their superiors.
The research, based on 381 responses in a survey of Canadian public-sector employees, found that workers who reported home and family demands interfered with work also believed they were offered fewer challenges and opportunities to develop skills and advance their careers.
