Yes, this and other reasoning do contain some truth as far as sociological studies, and anthropological historical data.
I just want to say some very simple things. We as a nation were set into motion mostly by those wishing to worship and to serve a God of Freedom. To get away from any state run church ideas, and to be able to live in freedom from state or Government forces that cause oppressive ideas.
I live for my God, even where the government may try to control or state someone's ideas of truth.
Please be careful of how to state issues regarding personal faith, especially in the format of within our own party. In almost all of the meetings of the southern Democratic Gatherings, they open with a prayer, asking for Gods Blessings and for his wisdom to be with them in their lives as they attempt to lead and to live their lives. Many here in Minnesota have tried to paint a picture that to have any inclusion of faith in ones political views is evil and is something totally distasteful.
Why do we seem to want to paint this type of picture? Fear based ideas so that we can exclude any forms of God what so ever from the discussion. In reality, most people do consider God in their values and in thier lives.
One way we as Democrats can counter this Right Wing Idea that they somehow have a "corner of the market" on faith, is to be inclusive regarding our faith and values ! Not to present this fear based wall that continues to perpetuate the so called conservatives side and views.
I am a Democrat mostly due to the teaching of Jesus. Not because of one or two issues that seem to cloud views of Value. If Jesus were here in front of you today, he would challenge your thinking with issues of helping those in need, helping to not live in fear, and to seek the ability to love thy neighbor as ones self. To be bold with your values, and to live accordingly with the ideas of your own faith ! Not to proclaim something and then to do another, but to live with the peace and respect of one anothers own faith. He may encourage his values and his message from his own life, but he would not judge you based on having a faith you might find important. It is possible he might call someone out and tell them the truth he sees in their lives as it pertaings to having a relationship to his Father in heaven if this interests you. He would support many of the programs we as Democrats have fought hard to keep or to develop. He would want to help us not have wars, he would want us to find peaceful resolution where ever possible. He would challenge the people of faith no matter what their persuasion might be. He may remind you some of his very best most trusted friends were women, and encourage many to seek their direction and advice.
Let's not build walls where they are not needed. If one wanted to fire bullets, both sides of the isle have just as many issues that could come under fire, a little bit like casting the first stones, and be subject to horrid criticisms.
Where are the great leaders for today ? This is the question we should be trying to answer. It seems there are very few that are willing to take up the flag and expend that sort of energy. It is no fun being in leadership, and doing it well. Where can we find good healthy leadership for this county needs, and in our world ? Help us to solve these kinds of questions.
Thank-you for your time,
Sincerely,
Drew Campbell
