Great Presidents and Great Popes

04/10/2005

For several years now I’ve been wondering how this great country
could end up with George W. Bush as president. Fortunately, Gil
Gutknecht has finally provided the answer. The following quote comes
from his April 8, 2005, Washington Insider’s E-line:

“Abraham Lincoln was succeeded by Andrew Johnson. Johnson was
impeached by fellow Republicans. Teddy Roosevelt became so frustrated
with his successor, he came back to run against him. Great Presidents
and great popes are seldom succeeded by great Presidents and great
popes.”
