Happy Property Tax Day

05/13/2006

Dear DFLer,

Monday is Property Tax Day and the perfect occasion to remind Governor Pawlenty and the Minnesota House that we need meaningful property tax reform now.

Governor Pawlenty’s cuts to local government aid have forced skyrocketing property taxes – some counties have seen double digit increases.

Instead of finding a solution to the rapidly inflating property taxes, the Republican-controlled house has decided to promote a one-time rebate check that does nothing to solve the long-term problem and is timed perfectly to coincide with their elections.

The DFL-controlled state senate, on the other hand, has introduced a tax bill that will close corporate loopholes to bolster the local government aid gutted by Governor Pawlenty and lower property taxes.

Please take a moment and write a letter to the editor telling Governor Pawlenty and the Republican Party to stop playing politics with our tax dollars. Make it personal, to let folks know how you, your family or your community have been hurt by local government aid cuts and the increasing property taxes.

The best letters are around 150 words and written from the heart.

Together, we can help stop the Republican election-year tricks!
