Has Kennedy’s Fundraising Dried Up? Has He Given Up In Fargo /Moorhead , Duluth and Mankato?
10/26/2006
ST. PAUL (10/26/06) – With two weeks to go before the U.S. Senate election – and at precisely the time when most campaigns are ramping up their paid advertising – Congressman Mark Kennedy is cutting back his broadcast-television buy throughout the state.
Public records show that Kennedy has cut his overall broadcast television buy significantly from last week, while Amy Klobuchar has increased hers. Most startling are cuts of 25-50% in Mankato, Fargo/Moorhead and Duluth from last week. Kennedy also cut from the Minneapolis-Saint Paul market.
Minnesota DFL Chair Brian Melendez released the following statement:
“It appears that Congressman Kennedy’s financial backers have left him high and dry for the home stretch. If he does have major money problems, Congressman Kennedy will be relying on last-minute political tricks to try and generate attention. Unfortunately for him, gimmicks and attacks won’t change what the people of Minnesota already know: that Amy Klobuchar is the candidate they can trust to bring change to Washington.”
Klobuchar has out-raised Kennedy for three consecutive FEC reporting periods, erasing his $1 million cash on hand advantage from earlier in the year. Klobuchar today reported raising $700,000 in the first 17 days of October. Kennedy has not yet released his FEC report numbers.
