Healthcare on her mind
03/17/2005
Dear Friends,
Hillary is back at work in the Senate this week with health care on her mind.
Speaking of her opposition to the budget cuts in Medicaid proposed by the Bush administration and Senate Republicans leaders, she announced her support for a bipartisan commission that would produce a cost effective financial plan for Medicaid instead.
Hillary pointed out that the cuts proposed by the Senate Budget Committee would cost New York almost $2 billion. Cuts of this magnitude would drastically reduce basic medical care for our nation’s children, parents, and elderly - denying health care to millions of Americans.
“I will fight this week to protect the existing Medicaid program,” said Senator Clinton.
In more personal news, I’m sure you know that President Clinton is now out of the hospital and resting at home. So many of you have called or written to express your concerns, and your messages were very much appreciated. Hillary said yesterday morning, “He’s doing really well, and I’m optimistic that he’s going to be doing better than ever when he heals from the surgery. I want to thank everybody for their concern, for their prayers and for their best wishes.”
Thank you, as always, for your friendship.
Sincerely,
Ann F. Lewis
Director of Communications
