Help Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund Save Polar Bears

02/16/2007

Dear Editor,

As you know, global warming affects our environment, our health and our economy. But recently I heard some sad news about the impact it is having on polar bears. Rising temperatures are causing these magnificent creatures to starve. Some are even resorting to cannibalism for survival.

That's why I wanted to share with you an important message from my friend and colleague Rodger Schlickeisen. Rodger heads Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, an organization doing great things to protect polar bears, wolves and other animals and the places they live.

Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund has launched a campaign calling for increased protection for America's polar bears and they need our help. I encourage you to read the message below -- and speak up for polar bears today!

Sincerely,

Gene Karpinski

Dear Gene,

America's polar bears are in trouble -- and global warming is a big part of the problem.

Click here to help protect polar bears by writing to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service today.

It's a sad story: Rising temperatures are robbing polar bears of vital habitat and melting the sea ice they use while hunting. As a result, polar bears are drowning in their search for adequate pack ice, starving to death and resorting to cannibalism.

But there is a glimmer of hope. In December, officials recommended listing polar bears as "Threatened" under the Endangered Species Act -- an important first step for greater protections for these magnificent creatures.

Take action now. Support Endangered Species Act protections for polar bears.

Scientists predict that polar bears could become extinct in the next hundred years unless we act. But that's not stopping the Bush/Cheney Administration and Big Oil from pushing for harmful drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- the most important onshore denning habitat for America’s remaining polar bears.

Please write to the Fish & Wildlife Service today. Tell them to adequately protect polar bears for future generations.

With out your voice, America's polar bears could disappear forever.

Thanks for all you do to protect our wildlife and wild places.

Sincerely,

Rodger Schlickeisen
