Hey Washington, it’s getting cold in Minnesota
10/28/2005
Dear Editor,
This morning when I got up to go to work, the grass was covered with frost. In the northern parts of our great state, we’ve already seen snow. Winter is on its way. But this year we’re also looking at the prospect of record-high heating costs—on top of high prices at the pump.
Hey Washington, it’s getting cold in Minnesota! So it’s time for us to turn up the heat on the Republican leadership in Washington.
Today the paper reports that Exxon Mobil took in nearly $10 billion in profits in just the past three months—more than $25 billion so far this year. That already matches their total profits for all of last year. At the same time, the Republican leadership in Congress has refused to protect Minnesota families and strengthen the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
Please sign my Gas Price Gougers petition today!
The people of Minnesota need to send a message to Washington: It’s time for new priorities. We need 1) a truly comprehensive national energy policy; 2) new standards and investments that promote homegrown renewable energy like ethanol, biodiesel, wind, solar and more; and 3) above all, require the oil companies to stop price gouging Americans and start investing in homegrown renewable energy.
Let’s light a grassroots fire under Congress so they stop rewarding Big Oil at the expense of working families and small businesses in Minnesota.
You can help right now by signing my petition to the chairmen of the Senate Commerce Committee and the House Energy & Commerce Committee, asking them to support my Gas Price Gougers Penalty.
Join my efforts to pass a Gas Price Gougers Penalty. Tell your friends and family to do the same.
It’s time for the Republicans in charge of Congress to feel the heat from Americans who want change.
Sincerely,
Amy Klobuchar
