In Rare Agreement Iraqi’s Ask For A Planned Withdrawal of U.S. Forces

The various Iraqi political factions have shown a rare level of unanimity and have asked the U.S. to prepare a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq. They argue that it can be done over the next year.
It is amazing that this agreement occurs at a time when the nation itself is caught up in a Civil War and is trying to resolve it. There is no way the U.S. can remain without siding with some political factions in the Civil War and that then adds to the problems of resolving it.
It now seems certain that once the elections are over in Iraq next month that the U.S. will be asked to leave Iraq on a phased timetable for withdrawal.
Under International Law the U.S. must oblige such a request.
