Invitation to Doorknock in St. Cloud on December 17

Dear Friends:
This Saturday, December 17, I will spend the day in St. Cloud to knock on doors for Larry Haws, the DFL candidate running to replace Representative Joe Opatz in the December 27 special election. With 66 DFL to 68 Republicans in the House, this seat is important! Please consider joining me. If you would like to carpool, please give me a call at 507-289-4664. IMMEDIATE ALERT—SPECIAL ELECTION SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 27
This date - between Christmas and New Year’s - falls at a time when most voters will be pre-occupied with the holidays, and when most college students will be off campus.
Because the holidays are a time we reserve for family and friends, they do not typically allow us the “free time” required to encourage people to “get-out-to-vote”.
Scheduling a special election during this time suppresses voter turn-out in St. Cloud. Rep. Joe Opatz lost to Senate Kleis in a Special Election that fell during this same holiday break in 1994.
Let’s not let it happen again!

An underhanded Republican victory in St. Cloud would not only decrease our numbers in the Minnesota House, it would greatly affect our presence in a DFL stronghold area that is critical for success in our 2006 local and statewide races. With your help, we can defeat any attempt to subvert the democratic process by organizing a grass roots effort to inform independent and swing voters about the candidates.
Our aim is to increase our presence in central Minnesota by:

These two seats are crucial; and with your help they are winnable. Our effort to counter any suppression of voter turn out requires that we mount a massive St. Cloud Support Campaign between now and election day to Get-Out-the-Vote on December 27.

DOOR KNOCKING EVENTS Saturday, December 10 and Saturday, December 17 Noon - 3 pm
Call Elizabeth at 1-320-229-3930 by the Thursday before the knock that you will be coming and if you are bringing people the number in your party so we can prepare the route packs and directions for you. Shifts can start as early as 10 am and will last 2 to 3 hours depending on the time you have available. (All shifts will be completed by 3 pm.)
