Iraqi PM Going to UK for Medical Tests

02/24/2008

BAGHDAD (AP) - Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki was to travel to London on Sunday for a round of medical tests just two months after he spent a week there for another round of checks.

Al-Maliki's adviser Yassin Majeed said al-Maliki was in good health and that the tests are merely to confirm that the prime minister has no medical problems.

After his last visit, an aide said the prime minister had traveled to Britain after falling ill, but no problems were discovered in his check up.

The government released no specific information about what tests al-Maliki, who is in his late 50s, will undergo. Majeed said al-Maliki might meet British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on his visit like did on his last trip to London.
