Amy Klobuchar, the DFL-endorsed candidate for the U.S. Senate, addressed a “Rally for Change” on Thursday in St. Paul to kick off a campaign tour of Minnesota with her extended family.

Klobuchar, hobbling on crutches from recent hip surgery, and former Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards drew a noontime crowd her campaign estimated at 1,000 to the State Capitol lawn.

Klobuchar’s “North Star Tour” will bring her and her husband, daughter, father and in-laws to “lunch counters, living rooms and front porches from New Ulm to Eveleth to talk about why we need change in Washington,” a campaign news release said.

“August is a great month to travel with your family,” Klobuchar said. “We’re looking forward to talking with Minnesotans throughout the state.”
