Join thousands in the Civic Dialogue on Safe Families and Safe Communities

09/08/2005

Dear DFL Member and Supporter,

On September 30 the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) will expire.  For the past 6 months, the Sheila Wellstone Institute and members like you have mobilized support for VAWA.  With expiration just 23 short days away, we need you to act now to help continue Paul and Sheila’s work to end domestic and sexual violence.

Help organize your community - facilitate a Civic Dialogue

On September 20, 2005, Wellstone Action and the Sheila Wellstone Institute are launching the Wellstone Civic Dialogue on Safe Families and Safe Communities.  Thousands of people across the country will meet in homes, libraries, and coffee shops to discuss how their communities can take action to end domestic and sexual violence.  We need your help!  The Sheila Wellstone Institute will give you everything you need for a successful event.

Attend a Civic Dialogue

Ending these crimes requires open public dialogue and tremendous grassroots action. On September 20th, activists across the country will gather to change how we address these issues and send a message to Congress that ending domestic and sexual violence is a priority for our communities.  We are already halfway to our goal of over 50 meetings nationwide.  Be one of the thousands - if you would like to attend a Civic Dialogue, click here to find a meeting near you!

If you don’t see a meeting near you, click here to sign up to facilitate your own Civic Dialogue!  A quick guide to facilitating a group, as well as a discussion guide and fact sheets, can be found on the VAWA Online Action Center .

Thanks for being part of the movement!

Julie and Elana, The Sheila Wellstone Institute
