KARAMU: A Performing Arts Festival
05/02/2005
Greetings once more from the Century YDFL!
Just wanted to remind you about a super exciting event coming up this Saturday:
Karamu: A Performing Arts Festival, celebrating the talents of area high school students and special guest Eric Addington (acoustic guitarist from the cities). We’ve put together a stellar show, including singing, piano, martial arts, ballroom dancing, monologues, speeches, slam poetry, and much more.
Saturday, May 7th. 7:30-10:00pm, at
Century HS auditorium (2525 Viola Rd. NE)
Stick around afterwards for free refreshments and a musical improv/jam session.
$3 suggested minimum donation
Benefits the Youth Reproductive Health Program of a youth founded organization in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya (see http://www.sidarec.or.ke).
Head to http://www.centuryydfl.com for more info.
President Bush is doing a great job using social security to distract this country from the real problems we should be addressing. Please support us as we raise awareness about the leading cause of death in Africa: HIV/AIDS. This is the Nairobi Youth Empowerment Project’s final event (NYEP was started in December to give Century YDFL a focus after the election. We held a benefit dinner for SIDAREC’s Early Childhood Development Program and did a book drive to stock a children’s corner of their community library).
If you can’t make Karamu but would like to donate, please send a check to Century High School (2525 Viola Rd. NE 55906) made out to Century YDFL with “Karamu” in the memo. Also please enclose a note saying it’s for Kristina Gebhard, so we can keep accounts straight.’
Or, bring cash or check to the Garrison Keillor fundraiser this Thursday .
Thanks,
Kristina Gebhard
